The Moonfire Bride

I LOVED this book!

To be honest, I was on the fence between four and five stars on this book. But, I figured if I was on the fence then it earned five stars. If book two were already out, I would be reading it right now and not writing this review . . . like I should. This means five stars all day long!

If you did not read the description yet, this is a Cupid (Eros) and Psyche retelling. (So NOT a spoiler!) And just so yall know, Eros and Psyche is my favorite retelling to read. So, this could have gone one of two ways, a botched retelling that left me wanting or nail on the head.

Can you guess which one it was?

Of course, it was killer! I was worried that it would feel too much like insta-love (and from our male protagonist, it does a little—we don’t see what makes him connect with her). But I also attribute that to not seeing any of his perspective; which I’m fine with.

The nitpicky reasons it almost got four stars:

  1. It is written in first-person present tense, which is (personally) jarring to read and not my favorite.
  2. There were also soooooo many exclamations!!!!!!!! Like a LOT!!!!!

I am personally weak when it comes to exclamation marks, so I get it. However, it made me feel like the characters were constantly yelling, even when the narration says otherwise.

BUUUUUUTTTTTT, all in all I very much enjoyed it and would recommend it! Can’t wait for book two!

The Moonfire Bride was written by Sylvia Mercedes. Check it out on Goodreads!
